The part that was missing a bit for me is what the relationship between Tatars and Ukrainians were prior to Russian rule, e.g. during the Golden Horde and Crimean Khanate. Although I don't know much, I have the impression that there were tensions. You mention some details but it would be nice to have a broader sense of that -- perhaps for future article!
