I agree in many respects too, but I would add that to compare is necessarily not to equate. In my view, sometimes the comparisons work and sometimes they don’t. For me, the writings of Masha Gessen are a good example of when such comparisons work. Gessen does not equate , but Gessen does compare, for example, the Warsaw Ghetto to Gaza and this is done with a lot of nuance and respect for Jewish experience.
