For the benefit of readers who might otherwise not be inclined to read a story about a subject they know much about, I will include here the text of my boost nomination. I am proud to have edited this unique work:
"This story would be an exciting and valuable read if it were only an introduction to Behrangi, Iran's most important children's author. But it much more than that, as the author's discussion of her experience of exile, of growing up in Iran before the revolution, and her comparisons of Iran to her newfound homeland of Wales, shows. The essay is a profoundly personal account of how Behrangi has shaped the author's life as an Iranian emigrant and a feminist. The concluding sections about the political stakes of Behrangi in Iran today are simply masterful. This story offers wonderful insight into how political ideologies can be hijacked by various factions, while the core political issues that matter to most humans are poverty and freedom. The essay is a great example of how a seemingly minor topic like a children's book can reveal important insights about political life. Shara Atashi is an accomplished translator and daughter of the famous Iranian poet Manouchehr Atashi."
