I write about poetry, politics, translation, Iran, Islam, the Caucasus & Palestine. I grew up in the US, and have lived and worked in Tbilisi, Berlin, Palestine, Budapest, Singapore, and Bristol (UK). Currently, I am Distinguished Professor of Comparative Poetics and Global Politics at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. On Medium I am editor of Global Literary Theory (https://medium.com/global-literary-theory), which is a boost nominating publication, so write us if you'd like to be added as a writer.
My boosted stories are gathered in this list: https://rrgould.medium.com/list/boosted-stories-by-rebecca-ruth-gould-81e4b2f9f0be.
My stories on Palestinian liberation (may the genocide end!) are gathered in this list: https://rrgould.medium.com/list/palestinian-liberation-writings-by-rebecca-ruth-gould-13b6d69fe171.
My books include Erasing Palestine (2023), The Persian Prison Poem (2021), The Routledge Handbook of Translation and Activism (2020), and Writers and Rebels: The Literatures of Insurgency in the Caucasus (2016). My short story collection Strangers in Love was published in Arabic translation, and my other works have been translated into Persian, Chinese, Russian, German, French, Spanish, Polish, and Portuguese.
I translate Persian classical and modern poetry ( often in collaboration with Iranian poet Kayvan Tahmasebian) as well as Georgian and Russian poetry and prose, and often publish about it on Medium.
